Begin inVelisar.

Velisar stands on the western shore of the Serevan, where river trade from the interior meets the routes crossing the great inland sea.

It is a city of merchants, scholars, sailors, engineers, old families, newcomers, and peoples whose histories began far beyond its walls.

Beneath its harbor lies something older.

FIELD NOTE · SERA VAREN

The coastline is wrong.

Sera Varen was cataloguing a collection of unremarkable harbor surveys when she found the map.

Its ink, material, and handwriting appear consistent with records copied several centuries ago. The coastline does not.

The document depicts structures now deep beneath Velisar Harbor as though they stood on dry land.

“Someone mapped the drowned quarter before we knew there was a drowned quarter.”

That alone might be dismissed as misdating, forgery, or an imaginative reconstruction.

But the map contains one additional detail.

It shows a passage beneath the harbor that has only just been opened.

01

The structure exists.

A newly opened submerged passage matches part of the architecture drawn on the map.

02

The dating is plausible.

Nothing yet proves the document is ancient, but neither its material nor its catalog history provides an easy explanation.

03

The coastline cannot be correct.

If the map depicts the region literally, it represents a landscape that vanished thousands of years before the document was supposedly created.

One artifact.
Several explanations.

Forgery.Someone created the document using knowledge obtained from the newly discovered ruins.

Misdated copy. The archive record is wrong, and the map is far newer than it appears.

Preserved knowledge.Someone possessed an older source whose history has been lost.

Something else. The map records knowledge nobody living at the time should have possessed.
